“No Labor” Labor Day Bars Recipe
Labor Day deserves a dessert bar that requires almost no work at all — butterscotch and nutty, chewy in the center and crisp at the edges, the kind of thing you can mix up in ten minutes and leave to bake while you get back to the backyard. These are the bars that prove the best recipes are always the simplest ones.

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/4 cup Pioneer® Original Biscuit & Baking Mix or Pioneer Buttermilk Biscuit & Baking Mix
1 cup butterscotch baking chips
1 cup pecans, almonds, hazelnuts or english walnuts- chopped
These “No Labor” Labor Day Bars use Pioneer Original or Buttermilk Baking Mix for the sturdy, chewy base that holds butterscotch chips and toasted nuts together in every easy, crowd-pleasing square.
Instructions
- Mix the Batter
In a medium microwave-safe bowl, microwave butter on high for 90 seconds to melt. Stir in brown sugar, eggs and vanilla until smooth. Stir in Pioneer Baking Mix until well combined.
- Add Toppings and Pour
Pour into oiled 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Sprinkle butterscotch chips and pecans on top.
- Bake Until Set
Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes or until bars are light golden brown and center is almost set.
- Cool and Cut
Cool completely. Cut into bars.
