Southern Peach Hand Pies Recipe

Southern Style Peach Hand Pies are the kind of dessert that makes summer feel complete — sweet, juicy peaches sealed inside a flaky, golden pastry crust and eaten warm from the oven. These are the pies you wrap in a napkin and take to the porch, the picnic, and anywhere else that deserves a perfect bite.

Ingredients

Hand Pie Dough
1 cup Milk
3 cups Pioneer® Buttermilk Biscuit & Baking Mix

Peach Filling
2 cups Peaches, diced
1/4 cup Brown Sugar
1 tsp Cinnamon, ground
1/4 cup Decorative Sparkling Sugar

Egg Wash
2 ea Eggs
1/4 cup Water

These Southern Peach Hand Pies use Pioneer Buttermilk Baking Mix for the tender, flaky crust that makes these peach hand pies a truly Southern summer treat worth baking batch after batch.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven

    PREHEAT oven to 400°F.

  2. Mix and Knead Dough

    To form hand pie, in a large bowl, MIX together Pioneer Buttermilk Baking Mix and milk until a dough forms, then transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead 3-4 times.

  3. Roll and Cut Rounds

    ROLL the mixture out to 1/8-inch thick and cut into rounds using a 4-inch cutter.

  4. Mix Peach Filling

    To prepare the Peach filling, fold all ingredients together in a small bowl until evenly combined.

  5. Make the Egg Wash

    To make the egg wash, whisk eggs and water together until an even consistency.

  6. Brush with Egg Wash

    BRUSH egg wash on half of the rounds.

  7. Fill the Rounds

    Place 2-3 tablespoons of filling on the egg-washed rounds.

  8. Stretch and Cover

    Lightly STRETCH the remaining rounds over the filling to cover the edges of the bottom round.

  9. Crimp the Edges

    Crimp the edges of each pie together using a fork.

  10. Top with Sparkling Sugar

    Top sweet hand pies with decorative sparkling sugar.

  11. Bake Until Golden

    BAKE for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
