Homemade Beef Stew Recipe
This Hearty Pioneer® Beef Stew is the kind of slow, soul-warming meal that fills the whole house with a smell that says dinner is almost ready. Thick, fall-apart beef and tender vegetables swimming in a rich, deeply flavored broth — this stew earns its spot in the regular rotation.

Ingredients
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 lb beef stewing meat
8 oz tomato sauce
3 cup beef stock
1 pkg Pioneer® Brown Gravy Mix
1 cup red wine
1 diced potato
1/2 cup frozen peas
1/2 cup frozen carrots
Make this Homemade Beef Stew Recipe even richer and more satisfying with Pioneer Brown Gravy Mix, which builds the kind of deep, glossy broth that takes most recipes hours longer to develop.
Instructions
- Heat the Oil
In a medium sauce pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high flame.
- Sear the Beef
Once oil is hot, sear the beef. Stir every couple of minutes.
- Add Tomato and Stock
Cook out excess moisture from the meat and add tomato sauce and beef stock.
- Reduce by Half
Reduce the mixture by half over high heat.
- Whisk Gravy and Wine
Whisk together Pioneer Brown Gravy Mix and red wine. Whisk away any lumps.
- Add Gravy and Potatoes
Add gravy mixture and potatoes to the pot and cook until thickened.
- Check Consistency
Continue to cook over high heat, checking for consistency. You want the sauce to coat the meat.
- Fold In Vegetables
Once the potatoes are done, turn heat to low and fold in frozen peas and carrots.
- Rest the Stew
Let rest for 5 minutes to heat the vegetables all the way through.
- Serve and Enjoy
Enjoy in a large casserole dish with the whole family!
